Appeal for people to ’club’ together

A local charity has launched an appeal, not for money but for any unwanted golf clubs.

Sight Concern Worcestershire is a county-wide charity that supports people affected by all levels of sight loss. In association with Gaudet Luce Golf Club in Droitwich they have recently started running courses to teach blind and visually impaired people to play golf. The courses are so popular that they are now appealing for donations of unwanted golf clubs so that these budding golfers have the equipment to practice between lessons.

Chris Belcher, Centre Services Coordinator at Sight Concern said “It is great to see the progress that is being made during the training sessions and the participants are keen to practice between sessions but need the equipment to do. As many of them are on low income, they cannot afford to splash out on a new set of clubs when they are only just picking up the sport. For many it is the first time that they have picked up a golf club, for some it is something they never thought possible due to their sight problems so we want to give them all the encouragement we can.”

Anyone wishing to donate clubs should bring them to the charity’s Bradbury Centre, 2 Sansome Walk, Worcester between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday or call 01905 723245 for more information.
