Diners enjoyed a unique dining experience at Worcester’s Glasshouse last night when guests ate blind folded – all in aid of Sight Concern Worcestershire.
Guests ate a delicious three course dinner meal, but were blindfolded for their main course, and given the challenge of guessing what they’d eaten! The event, hosted by the Glasshouse’s General Manager Steve Lloyd, aimed to raise awareness of what it is like to have limited or no vision. Dinner was followed by a charity auction which raised £1500 for the charity, conducted by TV auctioneer Philip Serrell. The event raised a total of £2300.
Alice Watts is Fundraising and Publicity Manager for Sight Concern Worcestershire who is organizing the event: “It was fascinating to hear the feedback from guests during and after they ate their main course blindfolded. Noise levels went up as people made more of their other senses. Guests were able to remove their blindfolds after the main course, but for so many blind or partially sighted people around Worcestershire, the ‘blindfold’ can never come off,” Alice explains.
The Glasshouse’s General Manager Steve Lloyd adds: “People’s reaction to food is very different when you remove the visual element. Everyone had a different response and found the experience to be a real ‘eye-opener’ as well as enjoying some tasty food and a great evening all in support of Sight Concern Worcestershire.”
