Low Vision Clinics

For people who are just starting to experience sight problems or who have a changing condition, we offer a low vision clinic within our Bradbury Centre twice a month, usually on a Monday.

We have two visiting qualified optometrists, both of whom have a specialist interest in low vision work.

At the clinics, the optometrist carries out a specialised sight test and from there can advise on lighting on magnifiers that may be helpful with every day tasks. The magnifiers can be prescribed and loaned to clients on a temporary basis.

Depending on the Optometrists professional judgement, the client is reassessed after three, six, nine or twelve months. If a different magnifier is then found to be necessary we will swap it for a replacement provided it has been maintained and is in good condition.

With the clinics being held at Bradbury Centre, visitors get the opportunity to seek advice about other aids and equipment that we have available to buy. These can increase confidence and help regain independence. Both our low vision coordinator and resident rehabilitation work are on hand to discuss suitable equipment at any point, please see the Aids and Equipment page for more details.
